Entry Point Four

The instruments
recorded something
without a category.

A quantitative EEG measures electrical activity in microvolts — one millionth of a volt. The normal human waking brain produces between 10 and 100. What was documented here was not on that scale. The question is what it means.

Not a claim about experience.
A record of measurement.

There is a long tradition of people reporting extraordinary states — clarity, expansion, unity, silence. There is a much shorter tradition of having those states documented by clinical equipment that doesn't care what you believe.

In March 2015, the author's brain was mapped by a quantitative electroencephalogram in three states. The results were photographed, documented, and preserved. What the equipment recorded was not mysticism. It was voltage.

What that voltage means, what produced it, and whether it points toward something available to others — that is what this book investigates.

The qEEG Record — March 2015

Three states.
One of them off the scale.

Meditation Baseline

70
μV

Within the established normal range. A healthy resting brain.

Meditative State A

200+
μV

Beyond what standard amplitude scales account for in peak cognitive states.

Meditative State B

700+
μV

Seven times the upper boundary of the normal human waking range.

Clinical literature establishes the normal adult waking EEG range as 10 to 100 microvolts, with most activity occurring between 10 and 50 μV. Deep sleep produces synchronized delta activity around 75 μV. Seven hundred microvolts, intentionally induced in a waking state, has no standard clinical category.

The Amplitude

700+ microvolts in a waking, non-seizure state represents a measurement that falls outside the parameters of ordinary clinical practice. The states were entered deliberately, sustained, and repeatable. They carried physiological cost — indicating real metabolic expenditure, not artifact.

The Coherence Patterns

Beyond amplitude, the session documented anomalous patterns in inter-regional coherence — the synchronized coordination between distant brain areas. EEG coherence is one of the most sensitive measures of large-scale neural organization. What was observed was documented as outside ordinary clinical parameters.

Cross-Frequency Coupling

Neuroscience research has established that theta-gamma cross-frequency coupling — the hierarchical coordination between slow and fast oscillations — is closely tied to consciousness, working memory, and integration. Anomalous coupling patterns are among the most diagnostically significant findings in clinical qEEG.

What Produced It

The states were not random or spontaneous. They arose from deliberate, practiced intention — entered consciously and sustained. This is precisely the kind of finding that raises the question this book pursues: what is the underlying structure that makes such states possible, and what does it imply?

The measurement is real.
The question is what it means.

Nine chapters. First principles. The logical and scientific investigation of what those states are, where they come from, and whether they are available to anyone willing to understand them.
